Brassapalooza began in 2005 as a week-long day camp for trumpet and French horn players. Rehearsals were held at Kellogg Middle School in Shoreline, WA, with the final concert outdoors at Greenlake Park in Seattle.
2006 saw the camp rehearsals at Eckstein Middle School in Seattle, with the concert at University Unitarian Church. That year the focus tightened to just trumpet students, and we had a lot of fun for the second year in a row.
2007 through 2011 were all fun trumpet camps, with rehearsals held at Eckstein most years, and end-of-camp concerts at Bethany Lutheran Church, Faith Lutheran Church, and Assumption Church. Over the years we’ve had master classes by jazz players, baroque trumpet experts, and other top brass players from around the Seattle Area.
In 2012 we had Brassapalooza Brass Choir, which was an all-summer-long brass choir, continuing our tradition of giving brass players the opportunity to play music they don’t get exposed to during the year at school, while having fun and improving all the while.
Brassapalooza is back to a week-long summer camp format. In 2015 we featured trumpet, French horn, and trombone players, and in 2016 we added euphonium and tuba to the mix.
