history

Brassapalooza began in 2005 as a week-long day camp for trumpet and French horn players. Rehearsals were held at Kellogg Middle School in Shoreline, WA, with the final concert outdoors at Greenlake Park in Seattle.

2006 saw the camp rehearsals at Eckstein Middle School in Seattle, with the concert at University Unitarian Church. That year the focus tightened to just trumpet students, and we had a lot of fun for the second year in a row.

2007 through 2011 were all fun trumpet camps, with rehearsals held at Eckstein most years, and end-of-camp concerts at Bethany Lutheran Church, Faith Lutheran Church, and Assumption Church. Over the years we've had master classes by jazz players, baroque trumpet experts, and other top brass players from around the Seattle Area.

In 2012 we tried something new: Brassapalooza Brass Choir. Instead of a week-long trumpet camp, we held an all-summer-long brass choir, continuing our tradition of giving brass players the opportunity to play music they don't get exposed to during the year at school, while having fun and improving all the while.

Starting in 2014, Zachariah MacIntyre joined our staff and has been our main conductor and coach. We have been back to the week long camp at Lincoln School in the Wallingford area since then. We enjoyed more masterclasses by area experts on breathing, jazz improv, and how to practice.
